Add A Little (Nail) Color For Spring!
Working in the spa industry, you get used to wearing black shirts and black pants. Before I went to the Aveda Institute I wore mostly black so this transition was an easy one. I had already embraced the "new wave" and the "goth" look in my twenties, loving the tattered black lace and heavy black eyeliner. Later, when I graduated from college and moved into an office work environment, I saw black as an easy go-to basic. What's NOT easy for me is moving AWAY from black and adding some color to my life! What colors do I even like?
I began my experimenting with color just on my toenails. It was easy to hide bright pink toenails in closed toed shoes. Then while operating my spa, I started adding colors to my fingernails too. As the owner, I needed to try out the products right? It started with holiday colors at Christmas, "Rays" blue on home game day, and just blossomed from there. Since I no longer have the spa, my need to try out new colors on my nails has waned and I have gone back to plain unpolished nails and black t-shirts and jeans.
So for Spring I decided to get some color! One afternoon while shopping with a friend at Nordstrom's I tested out a different color on each nail on my left hand. Although I didn't choose one that day, I later headed over to the local beauty supply store and fell in love with 2013 Essie Nail Polish in "Avenue Maintain", a pretty Robin's egg blue and the OPI Oz Collection. Although the "What Wizardry is This?" is a strange greenish hue, it looks great under sparkly "Which is Witch?" My next combo will be one of the lighter colors with the glittery one on top. There are so many great new colors out for Spring, I can't wait to try them all! Click on the photo for more great colors! Adding color to you nails is one way to ease into putting more color into your style.
P.S. I recently purchased my FIRST non-black purse in a bright orange. I think I am embracing this color thing! ;)

What is an Eco Day Spa?
Every eco day spa is a little different, but the one thing they have in common is that they take organic and all natural a step further in the belief that personal health and global health go hand in hand. They focus on providing an eco luxury spa experience while respecting the earth by adhering to environmentally friendly practices and sustainability. These are just a few practices eco day spas participate in:
- Organic or all natural skincare and cosmetics
- Limiting packaging and plastics
- Use of non-toxic paints, cleaning supplies, nail solvents/removers
- Use of recyclable materials such as glass drinking cups and recycled paper products
- Using filtered water
- Organic sheets and linens
